CMH Welcomes New Board Members

Cooley and Franzon Become Hospital Trustees

Cheboygan Memorial Hospital (CMH) announces two new community members to the Board of Trustees: Eugene Cooley of Mackinaw City, and Carl Franzon of Cheboygan.

Cooley is a retired school superintendent from Tecumseh. However, he and his family have part of this community for 39 years now. They own and operate the Tee Pee Campground in Mackinaw City. Gene’s involvement with the Mackinaw City Chamber Ambassadors is part of his broad background of public service.

“I have a willingness to listen and learn,” said Cooley. “I wanted to become a member of the CMH Board so that I could learn more about health care and contribute to the delivery of needed services within our community.”

Franzon moved his family to Cheboygan from Minnesota in November of 2004 when he became pastor of The Covenant Church. He brings plenty of leadership from his experiences in the military, as well as the church. Carl is active in many local organizations, including Habitat for Humanity and the Cheboygan Rotary Club.

“My passion for the community, along with having the perspective of a person with a young family should be considered assets for the Board,” claims Franzon. “I have a strong desire to see this area thrive and believe that the Hospital is crucial to the vitality of this community.”

The Board of Trustees at CMH is made up of 14 members that represent a wide range in areas of expertise and geographic coverage for the communities within the primary service area of the Hospital. Trustees are legally charged with safeguarding the assets of the organization and protecting patients from harm. Some of the Board’s major areas of focus include governance, money management and strategic planning for the future.
